Capital Punishment debate

| |

Working late last night on lesson plans away from home, I had the opportunity to eavesdrop on a group of Christian 20-somethings discuss several in-depth issues. To hear them debate, I was feeling quite old and matronly (two different things). However, their discussion was thought-provoking and good mental exercise vs. the phonics lessons I was planning.

Not sure if I've seen it here, so I'll throw it out now. » read more »

Stupid question?

This may be a stupid question but.... if you're Jewish, do you go to heaven when you die?

A family member passed away last week and she was raised Christian, but converted to Judaism when she met & married her husband. Last week she lost her battle with colon cancer. Her memorial service was earlier today. » read more »

Hurricane Ike

I used to live in Houston for a most of '98 and I've got a friend there who's hunkered down waiting for Hurricane Ike to hit. She says that Galveston and Freeport are already under water although they haven't had any rain yet. So the storm surge is already hitting and the storm is still 9 hours out in the Gulf.

Please pray for my friends and her family as they ride out this storm. They are 60 miles from the coast (just north of Houston). I pray that no one gets hurt. My friend's parents are in their 70s and are there also. Thanks for your prayers.

Atom-smasher... armageddon?

Anyone want to comment on this video? I can't understand but about half of it.

I did catch the part near the end where they say that this experiment could actually blow up the planet.

Already bored with A Beka

Well, this hasn't taken long. I'm already bored with A Beka, but worse yet, so is my son. I had heard (after I started buying our books) that A Beka was known for its repetitive exercises, so that by the time the child has learned and practiced the lessons, s/he knows the material. Problem is, my son picks up new ideas so quickly that he's about to speed thru the books. » read more »

Indians to Illegals

"What comes around, goes around." "You will reap what you sow."

I've been pondering both the history and future of our country, and I cannot help but wonder if we are reaping what we've sown. I'm not talking about how our Declaration and Constitution were created by God-fearing men who believed that the Bible should be the moral compass of our country's framework. » read more »

Monkey see....

We were at the park today making friends with another mom and her kids. Our kids were playing together when it became evident that my son was in trouble. He was playing in a tree. He was getting down out of the tree and slid down and got his knee wedged in between two trunk limbs of the tree, maybe 18-24 inches off the ground. He got so stuck we women couldn't get him out, so I had to call 911. It took 5 firemen to get him out by prying the limbs apart as much as they could. » read more »

My mom needs prayers

My mom could use your prayers. She's been battling a kidney infection for the past two weeks. They docs thought her gallstones were the problem last week, but earlier this week she woke up vomiting with fever, and my step-dad took her to the hospital. She was sent home 8 hours later. I spent all day Wednesday with her and she looked about the worst I've ever seen her. Anyway the kids and I prayed for her before we left the other day and she has been getting better since then. But she just called and she's still weak and in need of full healing. » read more »

SE Homeschool Expo

Anyone going to the SE Homeschool Expo in Cobb, coming up July 25-26? I want to go but don't want to go alone. There's at least one seminar I want to attend and will go alone if I have to just to get to it. Now that hubby isn't doing his race on that Saturday, maybe we'll go as a family on that day. We'll see.

Have you been to this expo before? Any thoughts?
