Hurricane Ike

I used to live in Houston for a most of '98 and I've got a friend there who's hunkered down waiting for Hurricane Ike to hit. She says that Galveston and Freeport are already under water although they haven't had any rain yet. So the storm surge is already hitting and the storm is still 9 hours out in the Gulf.

Please pray for my friends and her family as they ride out this storm. They are 60 miles from the coast (just north of Houston). I pray that no one gets hurt. My friend's parents are in their 70s and are there also. Thanks for your prayers.

Status on friend

My dear friend in Houston is ok. Her power is out and they've been told to conserve and boil their water as a pumping station nearby is out. Her parents live further north on a lake shore and they have 10 trees down. The wind is picking up water from the lake and dumping it on their house.

The news is reporting that it could be up to 3 weeks before they restore all of the power in Houston. Sounds like they've got GA Power out there. (boo hiss)

Also my mom is flying above the storm today as she travels to NM for a funeral/memorial service tomorrow.
