Price Of Denial
In light of John 1:1, Matthew 10:33 becomes very sobering. The written Word of God is like a shadow of the living Word, Jesus. Jesus is the Word become flesh (Matthew 10:14). If we deny Jesus before men, He will deny us before His Father. How can Jesus be our advocate at our Judgment if He has denied us because we first denied Him? He can't. This is the nature of rejection. Now, if Jesus is the Word become flesh, what might it mean for us to deny the written Word?
I do not wish to be too dogmatic about this, because this is a transitive doctrine not explicitly recorded in the Word as far as I know, but it would seem to be potentially dangerous, eternally speaking, to deny the written Word of God. At the very least, by denying any part, or many parts, of the written Word, we are attempting to alter God's character after our own desires--more specifically, we're fashioning a false god the way we would want him to be, rather than acknowledging the One, True God of the Scriptures. How much denial of the Bible can we do before we have perverted God into a false god, corrupted His Word, and denied Jesus before men? I don't have any idea where that line might be drawn, but I would rather "err" on the side of not denying any of the Word.
When you hold to an old-earth view of creation, you deny Genesis 1 (and more), not to mention the basic doctrines of sin and redemption. When you believe in multiple paths to salvation, rather than by way of Jesus alone, you deny the Gospel. When you accept homosexual behavior as sinless, vote for "the lesser of two evils", or practice self-serving ethics, you deny many portions of the Law, the Prophets, the Writings, and the New Covenant. When you twist the plain language of the Bible into whatever satisfies your desires, you deny the Word of God before men, altering the character of the Lord, Father and Son, into a false god and idol.
I will not say that a perverted view of the Scriptures, denying the proper understanding as recorded and interpreted by the Holy Spirit, will mean eternal condemnation. I won't say it, but I believe it might be true. Don't be a fool and deny the Word, be He flesh or written.
